I can't remember where I first saw a picture of a closet re-made into a workspace, but I thought it was odd at first (read: I'm-not-forward-thinking-enough-to-appreciate-such-originality). Why would anyone want to cloister themselves in a closet while they work for hours on end? But, like so many great ideas, the closet/desk kept cropping up everywhere I looked. Our current "desk space" is taking up an entire bedroom, and like most non-essential home offices, it just becomes a landing strip for needless paperwork, miscellaneous trinkets, and junk we feel bad throwing away (read: Christmas cards with pictures - why do I feel so GUILTY throwing them away??). I'm thinking of re-vamping the over sized closet in the current "office" to be the new desk space.
I want some GORGEOUS wallpaper on the back wall:

Or maybe a chalkboard wall??

A great desk chair like these two options:

And certainly lots of baskets, boxes and jars for organization purposes:
(How ADORABLE are these?? They wood overlay is unique to each file, and so chic!)
Plus, our closets already have lights wired to them (how do people work without a lamp??? I'll never know), so we could find some adorable fixtures for the space, I'm sure!
Here are some LOVELY pictures of closets-turned-offices that make me want to start the "throw-crap-out-so-we-can-renovate" cycle...

What do you think? Silly trend or stylish space saver? I'm thinking the latter, and I'm thinking of starting TODAY! (Never mind that I still have to convince my husband to Craigslist our GIANT, ugly, L-shaped desk...). Any design ideas you used to despise and now admire? I hope I'm not the only one who's fickle =) I hope you are having a simply wonderful Saturday - make it a happy one!
Ohhh just the inspiration I'm looking for. I think that I'm going to make one of these in one of my closets! Great round up.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I really like the magnetic wall mounts and overhead storage-very savvy. How do you plan to add lighting? I want to do something just like this, but I have to get my husband on board. We have limited space and I think this would really help us out. Only problem... condensing my closet into his. I guess I should start looking into how to create a minimalist wardrobe and fast. Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHow did you do the door mounts. I have 2 bifold doors and would like ideas to ue this space as I am redoing my office sewing room.
